These free student orientations to online learning and Canvas are not mandatory, but they are highly recommended if you are new to online learning or Canvas.
No registration is required--just choose a date from the Online Learning Orientation Schedule (PDF).
Campus orientations are held in Room L244 on the Southwestern College Chula VIsta campus, across from the library entrance. If you aren't sure how to get to the SWC Library, check out the Southwestern College Campus Map.
NEW! If you are taking a course in Canvas this semester, you have the option to attend an online orientation! These sessions will use ConferZoom videoconferencing. No account is needed; just go to the Zoom Orientation site a few minutes before your orientation's start time, download if prompted, and join the meeting. To arrange live captioning, email firstname.lastname@example.org 72 hours in advance.
Video Orientation: Blackboard and Online Learning
If you aren’t able to attend a live orientation, this virtual equivalent will introduce you to online learning and Blackboard. Learn how to log in, how to navigate your course and complete assignments, and where to turn when you have questions. Just like in the face-to-face orientation, we also share tips for online learning and take you through a sample course.
Video Orientation: Canvas
If you are taking classes in Canvas this semester, this video will take you through a sample course and show you what you need to know to get started. Give us 12 minutes, and we will give you the grand tour! If you have never taken online courses before, you might also want to view the first five minutes of the Blackboard and Online Learning video above.
