The African American Alliance presents:

The 6th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Essay Contest

Up to Six scholarship winners will be selected. Awards range from $200 - $1000.

Essay Topic: In his sermon “Love Your Enemies” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. provides insight on the nature of forgiveness. He not only offers reasons for understanding why we need to forgive but also warns us about the potential negative effects of a lack of forgiveness.

Why do you believe people find it difficult to forgive?  Think of your own life experiences and of those closest to you on the subject of forgiveness.  What lessons does Dr. King offer us that can move us toward a “double victory”?
  • Because of the sensitive nature of this subject, you may change the names of those involved.

  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.3 by the end of Fall 2013
Guidelines:

Write a two-page, typed and double-spaced essay responding to the essay topic above.  Be sure to include your student identification number on each page of your essay.  DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME IN THE PAGES OF YOUR ESSAY.  In addition, complete the scholarship application.
