SPRING 2014 LTA Training Session
CCAC's LIFEGUARD TEACHING ASSISTANT (LTA) TRAINING PROGRAM
A fundamental 14-day training program that will provide participants the basic leadership skills to work with youth and adults in CCAC's outdoor boating and aquatic sport program.
Learn basic skills for canoeing, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding (SUP) and surfing. Develop leadership skills working with youth and adults. Acquire awareness of water safety and emergency response. Great for those who love the water, the outdoors and working with people. Participants must be 15 years of age before March 2014.
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Title 22 First Aid and Ocean Lifeguarding courses are offered through Southwestern College's Continuing Education Department.These Non-Credit courses are free, however there is a cost for the required ARC books and certificate of completion cards. Participants will receive classroom and on-the-water instruction, training on use of aquatic recreation equipment, additional training materials and day-use parking pass for the Silver Strand State Beach during class days. Upon successful completion, participants will receive American Red Cross Lifeguard and Title 22 First Aid for Public Safety Personnel certification, a certificate of completion for Ocean Lifeguarding from Southwestern College and a certificate of completion from the California Department of Boating & Waterways for Boating Safety Paddle Sports Leader Training.
Successful completion of all components provides the individual with regular eligibility for hire as a Lifeguard Teaching Assistant at Crown Cove. These are hourly, part-time paid positions through Southwestern Community College.
