GBThe Pacific Coast Athletic Conference has selected Grossmont College swimmer Robin Anderson as its Women’s Athlete of the Week.
Anderson, a sophomore from Granite Hills High School who was Grossmont’s water polo captain in the fall, played a huge role in the Griffins’ 155-139 victory over Palomar. She captured two individual events and also swam on two winning relay teams.  Anderson won the 50-yard freestyle in 27.22 and the 100 freestyle in 58.60. She also swam legs on Grossmont’s winning 200 medley and 200 free relay teams.

Honorable mention went to swimmer Alisha Weaver and softball players Lisa Pena (San Diego City), Gabrielle Beasley (Southwestern) and Melanie Hall (Mesa).

Weaver, a sophomore from Woodcreek High School in Roseville, won the 50- and 100-yard breastroke events and swam on the Olympians’ first-place medley and freestyle relay teams in a 226-74 victory over Southwestern.

Pena, a sophomore pitcher / center fielder from Clairemont High School, went 5-for-10 with seven runs scored, three RBIs and three stolen bases as City College went 3-0 for the week with wins against Imperial Valley (10-0), Grossmont (6-4) and El Camino-Compton Center (12-0). She capped the week by pitching a five-inning no-hitter in the Compton Center game, striking out 12.

Beasley, sophomore pitcher / second baseman from Steele Canyon, went 8-for-13 at the plate in four games and pitched a four-hitter as the Jaguars downed Allan Hancock 3-2.
