KChapmanSouthwestern College track & field athlete Korin Chapman has been honored by the PCAC as its Women’s Athlete of the Week for the two-week period that ended Sunday.

Chapman, a freshman from Eastlake High School, cleared 11 feet, 4 ½ inches to place third in the pole vault at the CCCAA Southern California Championships at Antelope Valley over the weekend.

Honorable mention went to Palomar softball players Brenna Parker and Carlie Daniel, both previous winners and unable to be named Athlete of the Week for the second time in their season of sport, and San Diego Mesa softball player Tarin Marks.

Parker, a sophomore from Vista High School, was the winning pitcher in all three of Palomar’s victories as the Comets went 3-1 to win the Walnut Super Regional and advance to this weekend’s CCCAA State Final Four in Bakersfield.

Parker defeated San Diego Mesa, which had tied for the PCAC championship with the Comets, College of the Desert and Mt. SAC 4-1 in the championship game. She also had nine hits for the weekend, including four home runs.

Daniel, a freshman from San Marcos High School, had 10 hits, including four home runs, for the Comets (30-13) in the Super Regionals.

Marks, a freshman outfielder from Granite Hills High, went 3-for-6 as the Olympians swept Cerritos 3-0 and 9-8 in a first-round playoff series the previous weekend.
