Parking Lot “O” is Open, with a Capital O

Southwestern College opened the highly anticipated parking lot “O” this week—now entirely renovated with a dedicated right turn lane from Elmhurst Street. With 450 parking spaces, Lot O will provide additional on-campus parking options for students.
Lot O also includes a new drive-up, 24-hour parking permit machine. This new machine will accept cash and credit, and is operated by renewable energy. A new emergency blue light pole will be installed soon in the parking lot, giving students immediate access to Campus Police in the case of an emergency.
Acting Police Chief Robert Sanchez said the upgrades would not have been possible without Proposition R, the college’s $389 million bond measure.
"The parking lot underwent some much needed improvements and upgrades, while keeping construction impacts to our students to a minimum,” Sanchez said.
Students may also purchase discounted blue parking permits for only $30 ($10 less than the green student parking permits), which will allow them to park in lot “O” and “G” only.
