Shooting Guard Alexis Harris Nabs PCAC Athlete of the Week

AHarrisThe Pacific Coast Athletic Conference has honored Southwestern College basketball player Alexis “Alex” Harris as its Women’s Athlete of the Week for the week that ended Sunday.

Harris, a 5-foot-10 sophomore guard out of San Diego High School, pumped in 23 points in the Jaguars’ 64-49 victory over Riverside City College in Sunday’s consolation semifinals of the Ventura College/Optimist Club Holiday Tournament.  She scored the points on seven field goals (including four 3-pointers) and a 5-for-6 effort from the free throw line.  Southwestern won the consolation title on Monday.

Honorable mention was aware to Mt. San Jacinto basketball player Cora Lopez, Grossmont basketball player Jasmine Patrick and San Diego Mesa basketball player Genevieve Quintard.

Lopez, a 6-foot-0 sophomore forward from Hemet High School, led the Eagles to a 67-53 win over College of the Redwoods in the consolation semifinals of the 35th Colleen Riley Holiday Tournament at Fullerton College. Mt. San Jacinto went on to win the consolation championship on Monday.

Patrick, a 6-foot-0 freshman forward from Beford Forest High School in Jacksonville, FL, scored 25 points and pulled down 27 rebounds in two games, but the Griffins were eliminated from their own 26th Grossmont Invitational Tournament with a pair of tough losses. Patrick score 15 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds in a 62-56 first-round loss to Bakersfield and came back the following day with 10 points and 13 boards in a 74-67 loss to Santa Ana in the consolation semifinals.

Quintard, a 6-foot-0 guard/forward from University City High School, scored 18 points and hauled down six rebounds in the Olympians’ first-round loss to defending state champion Mt. SAC in the Colleen Riley tournament.
