MySWC Account & Other Secure SWC Systems

There are several secure SWC systems now that use MySWC to verify your identity. A complete listing of these sites is visible on the MySWC Portal. After logging in, click/tap on the "Campus Apps" button at the top of the page - a list of clickable buttons will slide down. These buttons indicate which secure SWC sites are currently participating in MySWC. Also, you will notice a small green indicator on the bottom, left corner of the image - that indicator means SSO is active for that secure SWC site. When SSO is active, you will just simply need to click/tap once to launch the app to start using it, with no additional login required!

MySWC Account FAQs

Below are some common questions and answers pertaining to MySWC accounts:

  • Q Why is creating a MySWC account required?
  • A You are required to create a MySWC account because we are bringing most of those different logins that you currently use together under one single username and password. This type of technology is known as "Single Sign-On" authentication, or just simply "SSO" for short. In addition, for students, creating a MySWC account is required for course registration and also how your SWC Student Email account is activated (where we send ALL official SWC communication).
  • Q Is there a list of SWC Secure Sites that use MySWC to log me in?
  • A To determine which secure SWC sites are currently participating in MySWC SSO, first login to the MySWC Portal and click/tap on the "Campus Apps" button at the top of the page - a list of clickable buttons will slide down. On most buttons, you will notice a small green indicator on the bottom, left corner of the image - that indicator means SSO is active for that secure SWC site. You just simply need to click/tap once to launch the app to start using it, with no additional login required!
  • Q How long does it take to create a MySWC account?
  • A Generally, it takes less than 5 minutes from start to finish.
  • Q Do I need anything before I start creating my account?
  • A Have your personal email account open and ready in a different browser window or tab and if you have a mobile phone that accepts text messsages, have that with you as well. We will send you Verification Codes to validate your account. Your personal email address and mobile phone number will be used to reset your password, should you forget it in the future.
  • Q How do I start creating a MySWC account?
  • A In your favorite browser, go to sso.swccd.edu. Enter in your username and password, then click the "New Users" button. Students, if you have never created an account before, you have a temporary password - your prior WebAdvisor password will no longer work.
  • Q Should I click/tap on the "Login" or "New Users" button?
  • A It depends. If you have never created a MySWC account before, you will use the "New Users" button that first time to create your account. However, if you have already created your MySWC account or are in the process of creating your account, use the "Login" button.
  • Q I successfully created a MySWC account and I now have questions about the MySWC Portal. Are there FAQs about that?

  • Q I am a new student trying to setup a MySWC account and it keeps telling me my username is invalid. What should I do?
  • A STUDENTS: Please make sure you are typing your username in correctly. All student usernames follow the same pattern - 2 letters and 7 numbers (example: md1234567). If that is not the problem, when did you receive our welcome email in your personal email account? If it was today, try to create your MySWC account after 5pm or the next morning, as there is sometimes a delay. If it has been quite a while and you still cannot create your account, see below for contact information to ask for assistance.
  • Q I am a student trying to setup a MySWC account and it keeps telling me my password is invalid. What should I do?
  • A STUDENTS: You were assigned a temporary password to create your MySWC account, even if you are an existing student (your previous WebAdvisor password will no longer work). Your temporary student password is exactly 8 characters and is made up of the first letter of your username (uppercase), second letter of your username (lowercase), and your 6-digit date of birth. For example, if you were born on July 4, 1993, your temporary student password would look like Md070493 - please be sure you are using 2 numbers for your birth month (07 instead of 7), 2 numbers for your birth day (04 instead of 4), and 2 numbers for your birth year (93 instead of 1993). If you are copying/pasting your temporary password, make sure you are not copying any space before or after the password.   • Q My account is locked out. What should I do?
  • A Your account will only be locked for 5 minutes. After that time, you are free to try to login again or create your account. Please take a look at the other FAQs and Help Tutorials here on this page to see if one of them will help you with your password challenge.   • Q I am a student and have not received the text message or email with the Verification Code needed to create my account. What should I do?
  • A STUDENTS: When you first started to create your account, you should have been required to immediately change your password if you clicked the "New Users" button (the "Login" button does not require password changes until the end). If you remember that password, just type it in, along with your username, in the fields on the main sso.swccd.edu site, then click the "Login" button. The system should ask you for your mobile phone number and/or email address again to receive a new Verification Code. On the contrary, If you clicked the "Login" button to create your account, try to use the temporary student password we assigned to your account, along with your username, and click the "New Users" button to re-enter your contact information. If none of these solutions work, your account will need to be reset to allow you to start again. See below for contact information to ask for assistance.
  • Q I am faculty/staff and have not received the text message or email with the Verification Code needed to create my account. What should I do?
  • A FACULTY/STAFF: Enter in your username and password in the fields on the main sso.swccd.edu site, then click the "Login" button. The system should ask you for your mobile phone number and/or email address again to receive a new Verification Code. If the system required you to change your password when you first started creating your account, be sure to use that one. If that does not work, or you cannot remember your password, your account will need to be reset to allow you to start again. See below for contact information to ask for assistance.
  • Q I forgot my password. How do I get a new MySWC account password?
  • A If you have already created your MySWC account, resetting your password is much easier than before. Now, you just need to go to the sso.swccd.edu site and click on the "forgot password" link located below the password field. Enter in your username and click the "Continue" button. You will receive a Verification Code on your mobile phone (if you registered one) or your personal email address. Enter the code within 10 minutes and then you will be asked to set a new password.
  • Q How do I change my password?
  • A If you have already created your MySWC account, changing your password is much easier than before. Now, you just need to login to the MySWC Portal and click on your name in the upper, right corner of the page - a mini-menu will drop down. Click on "Change Password" then enter in your current password on the next page and click the "Continue" button. Type in your new password and then retype it in the next field and click the "Set Password" button. You should see "Password Successfully Set" - click the "Continue" button. Your new password will be active everywhere that uses MySWC to log you in.

  • Q Does my password expire?
  • A Yes, in most cases, your current password will expire 180 days from the date it was created or changed. You can see the expiration date by logging into the MySWC Portal and clicking on your name in the upper, right corner of the page - a mini-menu will drop down. Click on "Account Management" then look for the the "Account & Password" section on the next page. If there is no expiration date listed, your password will not expire. Otherwise, be sure to update your password before the expiration date that is listed.
  • Q Am I able to see when my password will expire?
  • A Yes, you can see your password expiration date by logging into the MySWC Portal and clicking on your name in the upper, right corner of the page - a mini-menu will drop down. Click on "Account Management" then look for the the "Account & Password" section on the next page. If there is no expiration date listed, your password will not expire. Otherwise, be sure to update your password before the expiration date that is listed.

  • Q How do I change my email address on MySWC?
  • A You just need to login to the MySWC Portal and click on your name in the upper, right corner of the page, then click on "Account Management." On the "Account Management" page, look for the "Personal Email Address" section and click on the "Change Email Address" button. Enter in your new email address and click the "Continue" button. You will receive a Verification Code at your new email - enter that code within 10 minutes to validate the change. Once validated, your new email address will be used in the future to help you reset your password should you forget it. Please note, your official student, faculty, or staff record will not be updated automatically - you must go to WebAdvisor and update it there too.

  • Q How do I change my mobile phone number on MySWC?
  • A You just need to login to the MySWC Portal and click on your name in the upper, right corner of the page, then click on "Account Management." On the "Account Management" page, look for the "Mobile Phones" section. You have 2 options: you can delete your current phone by clicking the "delete" button next to it, or you can add an additional mobile phone (multple phones are allowed). Either way, click on the "Add Mobile Phone" button and type in your new mobile phone number, then click the "Continue" button. You will receive a Verification Code as a text message on your phone - enter that code within 10 minutes to validate the change. Once validated, your new mobile phone number will be used in the future to help you reset your password should you forget it. Please note, your official student, faculty, or staff record will not be updated automatically - you must go to WebAdvisor and update it there too.
