Funding for Conferences
The Professional Development Program has two types of funding. Funds are extremely limited; please read carefully the information provided below prior to applying for funds. The Professional Development Committee will ensure that funds are disseminated equitably among all constituent groups.

The Professional Development Funding, and the Student Equity Funding applications are available in MyLearningPlan. Please read all instructions provided within each application.


PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Priority will be given:
- On a first come first served basis;
- If you have not received funds previously*;
- If your application is correctly completed** (please read instructions provided in each application);
- If your application is submitted on or before required due dates***.

A limited number of participants will be selected for each conference.

FYI: All previously submitted applications have been reviewed for completion. Please check your MyLearningPlan inbox to see if your application was completed correctly.

*Priority will be given to employees who have not received funds on previous years. Exceptions are made only if your participation is required.

**All sections are filled as directed on each application, and the required attachments are included. Incomplete applications will be returned to applicants for completion; however, this may delay the application process causing the applicant to cancel participation in the planned activity.

***REIMBURSEMENT – Applications are due on or before September 28, 2018.
Conferences/activities during the months of July, August, September, October, November, and December qualify for reimbursement.
If your application is approved, we will contact you via e-mail on October 1, 2018. The e-mail will have detailed instructions for you to complete your Registration and/or Travel Packet, and a list of the items you will need to collect during your travel to help you expedite the reimbursement upon your return.

***ADVANCE FUNDING – Applications are due at least ten weeks prior to the start of the conference/activity.
Conferences/activity during the months of January, February, March, April, May, and June qualify for advance funding.
If your application is approved, we will contact you via e-mail with detailed instructions for you to complete your Registration and/or Travel Packet.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Professional Development Funding

Each academic year (July 1-June 30) the Professional Development Program has a very limited amount of funding for faculty, classified, confidentials, and administrators to participate in activities such as*: conferences, seminars, trainings, workshops, College/University courses, or online courses/webinars.

The funds can only be used for registration fees up to $400.00 for conferences/activities in California or Out-of-State). Please read instructions provided in the application available in MyLearningPlan.


Student Equity Funding
All conferences* (in California or pre-approved Out-of-State) paid with Student Equity Funding must meet the following goals:

Student Equity Goal B: Student Success: Course Completion
Description: Increase the successful course completion rates for students enrolled in basic skills courses, in particular for African American Students and Younger Students (18 yrs.-24 yrs.).
B.2. Implement a professional development program focused on strategies for increasing student success in ESL and basic skills programs.
B.3. Implement a professional development program focused on increasing staff and faculty's level of cultural competency.

Student Equity Goal C: Student Success: ESL and Basic Skills Completion
Description: Increase student completion rate in ESL and Basic Skills Remedial English and Remedial Math) courses specifically for Male Students and African American Students.
C.2. Implement a professional development program focused on strategies for increasing student success in ESL and basic skills programs.


*Prohibition on State-Funded and State-Sponsored Travel to States with Discriminatory Laws (Assembly Bill No. 1887).
