CalWORKs stands for California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids. The CalWORKs Program at Southwestern College provides assistance to TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) participants which include academic, career, personal counseling and employment assistance.
The Southwestern College CalWORKs participants are students who need to meet county Welfare-to-Work requirements. Students fall in one of the two categories: 1) Current students enrolled in a certificate, AA/AS, or transfer degree program prior to “cash aid.” 2) New students who are referred by a case management agency who would like to pursue an education or training that leads to self-sufficiency.
