The San Diego Mesa men and the Southwestern women proved to be the top teams of the deep south both won Pacific Coast Conference Championships on Friday.

The Southwestern men seemed to be ready to pull off the upset as they looked to defeat the defending champion San Diego Mesa team. Top runner, Dahir Mohammed took the individual title as he won the race by a 53 second margin. His teammate, Edgar Lopez placed second. Cuyamaca also got into the act as they placed two runners in the top five, led by an outstanding performance by Jesse Beason.

However, San Diego Mesa was able to grab 5 spots in the top twelve, which was a strong enough team performance to once again take the title. Cuyamaca was able to move into the second place position with Southwestern placing third.

In the women's competition, Southwestern saw the welcome return of the Tanya Valenzuela, which helped them dominate the race. Valenzuela finished behind her teammate and winner of the race, Nadine Mulvany. Five of the top six finishers were from SW. San Diego Mesa, behind the excellent performance of Michelle Thompson, placed second overall in the team competition.
