March 7, 2008 - Men's team has faltering start: Star duo not enough to rack up a victory
By Gerardo Rocha, Southwestern Sun - Ryan Bell lost his cool and smashed his scorecard. Then he regained his composure and smashed his opponents. Southwestern College's No.1 singles player won his match against a tough Palomar squad 6-2, 4-6 (10-4), but the team still suffered a 6-3 loss. Bell started the match at a slow pace, made many unforced errors, hit the ball too hard or too soft, and handed his opponent a temporary lead. Bell took his frustration out on the scorecard, smashing it after he was not able to reach a ball. "I'm not proud of it," said Bell. "But it made me feel better." He soon regained the lead...(Click title for entire article). -
February 21, 2008 - Making a racket: Men's tennis team looks to recreate last year's success
By Gerardo Rocha, Southwestern Sun - There are some big shoes to fill at Southwestern College. Tennis shoes, to be precise. After a championship 2007 season it is time to rebuild. The team will have to replace last year's top three players Jamie Smith, Arthur Miyazaki and Lance Franey...(click title fore entire article). - more news & events...
Coach's Corner
- SWC Athletics Mission Statement The Southwestern College Athletic Department utilizes the college mission statement to drive its athletic teams and programs. Administrators, faculty and classified staff motivate, challenge and support student-athletes, encouraging development as whole beings and teaching psychomotor (motor skills), cognative (critical thinking) and affective learning (social skills). It is our hope that in aquiring skills in these areas will ultimately transfer to a student-athlete's career, family and community life, resulting in a true "global citizen" who is able to participate in, adapt and contribute to an ever changing society and dynamic world.

Lance Franey - alumnus 2007
By playing tennis for Southwestern College I have grown both mentally and physically, I was able to make friends on and off the court, and I was able to have fun and enjoy college at the same time. I now have the mental edge to finish off matches and I have the physical endurance to outlast my opponents. Southwestern College got me ready to move on to the next level, and now I am playing tennis for Whittier College. I have done so much in two years at SWC, including OJAI, Regionals, PCC Conference Tournament, and receiving the Male Student Athlete of the Year Award. I owe my success to the Coaches because without them I wouldn't have been able to accept a tennis scholarship. Coach Foley, Coach Lupian, and Coach Joves have shared with me many important aspects of the game which I will cherish for a very long time, and I owe it all to them. I am proud to say I was a Southwestern Jaguar.
