I would like to tell you a bit about the program and share some of the student Athletes stories, whom have participated in recent years. The Jaguar Lady Tennis Team has been represented by some extremely fine athletes the past years.....2000 season saw Katalina Romero win the Community College Women's Title in Singles at the Prestigious Ojai Tournament, and also the CA Community College Women's Singles Championship Tournament. The Fall of 2000, Katalina Romero won the So. Cal ITA Singles Championship and went on to represent herself and the Lady Jaguar Tennis Program at the Nationals, where she won the National Community College Singles Championship. The spring of 2001 she received a full-ride Athletic Scholarship to play for and attend San Diego State University. The 2001 season saw Local (Bonita Vista High) graduate Maru Altamirano playing for the lady Jags and reaching the Semi-finals in Singles at the Ojai Tournament and also a Doubles Finalist at the CA. Community College Championships, and she was also a Quarter Finalist in Singles at the State Championships. Maru Altamirano also was Chosen by the coaches of the Pacific Coast Conference as the "Player of the Year." Ms. Altamirano received a Athletic full-ride scholarship to attend and Play for the University Of Colorado. The 2004 and 2005 season saw the abilities of Priscilla Lania playing #1 singles for the lady Jags. Although a Local, Ms. Lania trained for a while at the Prestigious World Renown Academy, "Nick Bolleteri" in Florida. Although a Clay Court Specialist in her style, she adapted well to the Hard Courts of CA. and was a regional qualifier both years in Singles and Doubles. She also was a Pacific Coast Conference Singles Finalist in 2005.The 2006 and 2007 season saw local 3 sport Athletic Phenom from Chula Vista High, Lani Morris, lead the Lady Jags to 2 successful seasons with her superior athletic skills. Ms. Morris was defeated in conference play only 1 time in the 2006 season and was the driving force of the successful 2007 lady Jag season. Ms. Morris, while at SWC, has been the MVP of both our Women's Tennis Team and also our Women's Soccer Team. She is currently the new Assistant Lady Jags Tennis Coach.Another local player that achieved great success as a lady Jag; but also academically, is Viridiana Martino. Ms. Martino attended as a first time Beginner, one of Coach Reasons Tennis classes and became passionate about the sport, I recognized that passion and commitment and invited her to be on the team. Her first season she was a second string player; but worked continually on her tennis skills and by her second season, 2007, she had reached a position of regional qualifier in doubles and also was recognized as the SWC Women's Scholar Athlete of the 2007 season, in addition, she is the first Female Athlete representing SWC to be chosen by the Pacific Coast Conference Athletic Directors to be the Pacific Coast Conference Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year 2007.These are just a few of the Athletes that have chosen to participate on the SWC Women's Tennis Team, there are so many more from schools in the area as: Hilltop, Eastlake, Coronado, Chula Vista, Sweetwater, Montgomery, Mar Vista, Bonita Vista, Castle Park, Marion, Otay Ranch, Southwest. Players from Serra, Morse, and other San Diego County High Schools have also chosen SWC as their preference for Tennis. We have also been fortunate to have athletes from schools and academy's throughout Mexico. The SWC Women's Tennis Team represents a chance for students who participated on their High School teams to continue with those passions while pursuing a college degree to prepare them for a successful professional future. It also is a chance to further develop their tennis skills through professional coaching and a place to make new friends that share their passion for this sport.Coach Susan Reasons - archived coach's corner...
Athlete Testimonial

Lani Morris - alumna 2007
"By coming to Southwestern and playing tennis I have furthered my growth as a tennis player and become a much stronger player then I had been before I joined the team. I have also made lifelong friends while participating as a lady jag tennis player. Most importantly, through training here at SWC, I developed a higher level of tennis skills and therefore I was offered the opportunity to pursue one of my dreams, that being an athletic coach. The coaches and the team are always willing to help out each other on and off the court."

Viridiana Martino - alumna 2007
"Small picture: I went from being a beginner to a regional doubles qualifier in less than two years. Big picture: I had the time of my life!! Most importantly, however, being part of the team made me realize that school and sports can go hand in hand. As a very academically-focused person, I am so grateful that being a student-athlete put me ahead of the game with other transfer students. Now I'll be attending USC, the school of my dreams! It was all very well worth it, without a doubt." J
