Neck, Back & Beyond: Preventing Pain for Peak Productivity

Presented by Bethany Valachi, MS, PT, CEAS
Recommended for: Entire dental team
Nearly 3 out of 4 dental team members experience chronic work-related pain that can affect quality of life, productivity, and career longevity. In fact, about one-third of dentists who take early retirement are forced to do so because of disability.

This ground-breaking seminar for the entire team fills a void in dental education - bridging the gap between dental ergonomics and work-related pain. Discover how dentistry and equipment selection are impacting your physical health, and how to implement effective prevention strategies based on clinical experience and research in the areas of dental ergonomics, biomechanics, kinesiology and physiology.

Team members will walk away with knowledge they can apply immediately in the operatory to reduce work related pain, prevent injury and increase career longevity. In this seminar you will learn how to:

  • Identify the most common risk factors contributing to work-related pain in dentistry
  • Learn criteria for selecting and adjusting magnification systems, operator stools and patient chairs
  • Discover how certain operatory layouts and delivery systems contribute to pain syndromes
  • Learn proper postures, positioning, body mechanics and stretches to reduce and prevent work-related pain
  • Discover how to 'ergonomize' your front office
  • Learn how certain exercises and activities (including golf) can exacerbate pain syndromes to which team members are prone
  • Learn which muscles to target with strengthening programs
  • Identify and self-treat painful trigger points
