This workshop will enhance instructors' abilities to develop a balanced lesson plan (language x skills x content) by giving instructors a historical overview of EAP (English for Academic Purposes), how it developed and the approaches to EAP used. The audience will be able to identify what academic skills our students need to succeed in college (general view) and look at different lesson plans or materials to determine what approach to EAP was used for that particular lesson/material. They will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of those approaches and then focus on content-based instruction and how we can teach academic skills and enable language learning, so that students can succeed in accessing the academic language needed for completing tasks. |
