FLEX, HURDLE Credit Description

Flex Credit (F)

The Flex Calendar (7/1-6/30) agreement negotiated by SCEA and the District specifies that all Full-time Faculty complete 28 hours of approved professional development activities.

Two pre-semester days are mandatory (2 days=8 hrs)–the day that precedes the first day of the Fall and Spring semesters (Opening Days).  The remaining 20 hours can be completed through any of the following:

Staff Development Program Activity (advertised via e-mail and/or posted online at www.swccd.edu/~staffdev/Calendar):
On-campus activities approved/sponsored by the Staff Development Program

Individual/Group Activity (off-campus workshops, conferences, seminars, or other activities):
Submit a Flex Activity Proposal form (FAP) to your cognizant Dean or designee for approval.  Upon completion, submit the form to the Staff Development Program office for recording. FAP is available in Public Folders, Staff Development.

Due to the severity of State audit compliance, absence at pre-semester days (Opening Days) or non-compliance of flex obligation will result in pay loss.  However, you have the same options available as when you are unable to teach a class (illness, personal necessity or bereavement).

Flex hours cannot be carried forward to another academic year.

Adjunct faculty do not have a flex obligation.  They are welcome to participate in flex activities; however, they will not receive hurdle credit unless a Request for Approval of Work for Purposes of Reclassification (RAWPR) form is completed and it is approved by conizant Vice President.
