American Sign Language (ASL)

Current course schedule

We offer a two-semester sequence in American Sign Language. It is assumed that no ASL has been formally studied, so these classes follow a sequence that builds language skills.

The ASL program offers an introduction to the language of signs and manual communication methods used by hearing-impaired persons in the United States:

  • American Sign Language 120: Provides a basis of communication between hearing and hearing-impaired individuals and a base of increased awareness of deafness and other related issues to the deaf.
  • American Sign Language 130:  Designed to provide increased proficiency in sign language and finger spelling, including communication of the complex messages, idiomatic expressions, subtleties and nuances of language.
