Transfer of Credit
Southwestern College (SWC) may award college credit for courses completed at regionally accredited colleges or universities. Courses must be college-level and cannot be identified by the original institution as non-degree-level coursework.
How Transfer Credit Works
- Initial evaluation: SWC reviews your transcripts for General Education (GE) courses that apply to a local degree and CalGETC transfer.
- Evaluation complete: You’ll receive an email when your evaluation is finished. Meet with a counselor to review your results and discuss next steps.
- Additional evaluations: If you need an evaluation for a major or another specific requirement, your counselor can submit a request to the Evaluations Office.
- Course equivalencies: SWC may accept courses that are equivalent in content and scope to SWC courses. The Evaluations Office works with the appropriate Dean and/or faculty to determine equivalencies.
- Articulation agreements: SWC honors applicable articulation agreements with other colleges and universities.
- Quarter units: Quarter-system credits are converted to semester credits at a 2/3 ratio.
Important to Know
- Transcript Evaluation processing time may vary during peak periods.
- A complete credit summary (student education plan) is provided when you meet with a counselor.
- International coursework: If you completed college courses outside the U.S., your foreign transcript must be evaluated by a recognized foreign transcript evaluation service approved by NACES agency. Preferably International Education Research Foundation (IERF).
