Dr. Sahar Mohseni is an accomplished scientist and educator with extensive expertise in cell biology, molecular biology, and therapeutic antibody development. She has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to advancing cancer research, particularly in the development of targeted therapies for various cancers, including breast cancer and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Dr. Mohseni earned her Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the Institute of Stem Cell Transplantation and Immunotherapy at University Hospital of Kiel in Germany. Her doctoral research focused on improving antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) of therapeutic antibodies targeting the acute myeloid leukemia (AML) stem cell antigen CD96. She later completed postdoctoral research at UT-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where she worked on humanized therapeutic antibodies designed to target phosphatidylserine in breast cancer cells.
Dr. Mohseni holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Developmental Biology. Her Master's thesis focused on studying the morphological and histopathological effects of morphine on the development of prenatal rats. She also obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Zoology from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, where she developed a strong foundation in biology and animal science.
Currently, Dr. Mohseni serves as a Full-Time Professor in the Department of Biology at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California, where she has been an integral member of the faculty since 2017. In this role, she teaches undergraduate courses in biology and molecular biology and actively mentors students pursuing careers in the biological sciences. Dr. Mohseni is highly regarded at Southwestern College, where she is ranked among the top professors based on her contributions to the academic community, teaching excellence, and active involvement in research. Her engaging teaching style and mentorship have earned her recognition as a leading educator within the institution.
Dr. Mohseni’s teaching career began in Iran, where she held positions as a faculty member at Tehran Azad University, where she taught zoology, microbiology, and developmental biology.
In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Mohseni has significant industry experience. She has worked as a Scientist Consultant in antibody and protein therapeutic engineering for cancer treatments. She has also held the position of Research Scientist, focusing on developing antibodies for breast cancer therapy.
Dr. Mohseni's research has been published in several high-impact scientific journals, including PLoS One and Leukemia, contributing to the advancement of cancer immunotherapy. Her work has been presented at numerous international conferences, such as the American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting and the European Hematology Association Congress.
Her technical expertise spans several disciplines, including cell culture, protein expression, antibody generation, and biochemistry. She also possesses strong project management skills, having led teams and successfully managed complex research projects. Dr. Mohseni is fluent in English, Persian, and German, enabling her to collaborate across international scientific communities.
