Accessibility and Section 508 Compliance

Southwestern College strives to create an inclusive college environment for all students, faculty, staff, and community members. A key part of the school's mission to provide an equitable campus is accessibility awareness and compliance. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Southwestern College is committed to providing full access for all users to content provided on the SWC website, as well as within the physical and online classroom and public spaces.

Accessibility Resources for Students

Please visit Southwestern College's Disability Support Services (DSS) web page to learn about the various academic accommodation options available for registered DSS students at SWC, as well as support resources and organizations.

Accessibility Resources for Faculty

Providing accessible content to students is not only a best practice of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), it's also a legal mandate. All course content (files, video, Canvas content, apps and publisher content, as well as paper copies handed out in a class) needs to be accessible, whether a course is face-to-face, hybrid, or fully online. The onus of accessibility is on the faculty member disseminating the content.

Southwestern College offers a variety of resources to assist faculty in learning about sound course design principles, in making their course materials accessible, and utilizing the Canvas learning management system to provide academic accommodations.
