The SWC Theatre Arts Department is producing a brand new adaptation of the ancient Greek tragedy, "The Trojan Women" by Euripides. Here's a summary: The pandemic of racism is addressed in “The desTROYers”, adapted by Tanika Baptiste and Ruff Yeager from Euripides’ “The Trojan Women”. Set in the near future amid escalating Black Lives Matters protests, the Citizens of Troy rise up against The System. Three generations of women mourn the loss of the men and the freedoms they once loved. Gramma’s husband has been killed in an act of police violence. Sis has used social media to challenge The System’s power and is arrested for treason. Mama has lost her husband, a hospital janitor, to COVID-19 and her son, an active protestor, is threatened by vigilantes empowered by The System.
