Art Program

Program Overview

At SWC, you will learn the language of art, design principles, and elements of composition in a variety of art forms such as painting, drawing, photography, digital imagery, ceramics, new genres, sculpture, printmaking, and graphic design. Our program is designed to give you an opportunity to develop your technical skills, aesthetic awareness, personal expression, and critical analysis.

In addition, you will study the history of art in both Western and non-Western cultures and art analysis, theory, and criticism.

SWC offers transfer degrees in several areas, including art history, graphic design, and photography. Courses fulfill lower-division requirements at most universities and will help you develop a portfolio of work, as most universities require students to present a portfolio for evaluation to be admitted. The Art History major qualifies for admission into the California State University system through the Associate Degree for transfer program.
