Most Law Enforcement  departments require officers to be certified by a POST accredited academy.  This academy will meet the requirements to become a lateral officer.

How do I get a job as a police officer?
Law Enforcement Agencies are hiring throughout the state.  Just log on to any web page and obtain information about the position and the minimum qualifications and then accept applications during a specific time period.  Along with submitting an application, the qualified candidates usually take a written test, and a physical abilities test.  They often also have to pass interviews, a physical exam and a background check.  The physical requirements of the academy will prepare you for the  testing process when applying for a law enforcement job.

Do I need a degree in criminal justice before I can get a job?

Not necessarily. Law enforcement  officers frequently get hired before they complete the academy certificate or degree.  Many departments are looking at a combination of education, POST academy certification, clean backgrounds, ethics, morals and professionalism.

How do I get a Police Academy POST Basic Course Certificate?
Attend a law enforcement POST certified academy either at a college or an agency  department specific academy.   (Usually requires application, background check  and hiring by the agency before attending the agency department specific).
