Policies & Procedures Guiding SWC Distance Education
Board Policies & Procedures
Board Policy (BP) 4105 - Distance Education was approved by the Governing Board in July of 2015. The accompanying Administrative Procedure (AP) 4105 was approved by the Academic Senate. The policy identifies and defines Distance Education (DE) and the state laws, federal laws, and education code under which DE courses must be in compliance. The procedure provides working definitions for DE courses at SWC as well as standards for DE instruction, faculty training, and more.
In September of 2015, Board Policy (BP) 4115 - Distance Education Regular Effective Contact was approved by the Governing Board. Administrative Procedure (AP) 4115 - Regular Effective Contact was approved by the Academic Senate. The Regular Effective Contact policy provides an explanation of the contact requirements between faculty and students in online classes. The procedure defines the type and frequency of instructor-initiated contact required in DE courses and provides examples of regular effective contact. Guidelines for establishing contact expectations and managing instructor absence are also provided.
DE Faculty Training Procedure
As explained in Article XVI of the S.C.E.A Contract, "Faculty members teaching online or hybrid classes shall successfully complete a District approved training course/program prior to instruction." The following documents are provided in accordance with Section 16.8:
