Constitution Day

September 17 is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. It marks the anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787, which is the document that established the framework of the American government and the fundamental rights of its citizens. Nearly 240 years later, the Constitution remains one of the most influential governing documents in history.

Colleges and universities that receive federal funding are required to hold an educational program about the U.S. Constitution for their students each year. At Southwestern College, we use this day as an opportunity to celebrate civic knowledge, encourage voter participation, and connect our students to the history and values that shape our democracy.

How SWC Celebrates

Each year, the SWC Financial Aid Office provides students, faculty, and staff with access to Constitution Day educational resources and gives away free pocket-sized U.S. Constitution books. The SWC Library also creates a display of Constitution-related books and resources, and voter registration materials are available on campus.
