System Information

The SWC Event Calendar is an interactive module that displays upcoming SWC events that can be easily filtered by day, week, month, or even by category. Currently employed faculty and staff can submit upcoming events using the automated "OmniUpdate Calendar Event" request form on ServiceNow (using the "web" button in the Institutional Technology section).

The SWC Faculty & Staff Directory is automatically refreshed and updated on a nightly basis. The information displayed comes from the same source of information that you see in your Outlook calendar. If you notice any descrepancies, please submit an IT Incident on ServiceNow to let us know.

Faculty and staff have the ability to create their own profile pages that include a picture, resume, and more information about themselves. The SWC Faculty & Staff Directory will automatically provide a link to a person's profile page. Currently-employed faculty and staff can create and update profile pages using the automated "OmniUpdate Profile Page" request form on ServiceNow (using the "web" button in the Institutional Technology section.

Faculty and staff receive email messages sent directly from the website. The SWC Faculty & Staff Directory automatically uses a link to everyone's personalized contact form (instead of email addresses) to help minimize spam/phishing attempts. OmniUpdate website editors are encouraged to use contact form links on their webpages instead email addresses.

• OmniUpdate is a "decoupled" system. Meaning, it is made up of two different servers - a staging server and a production server.
• The staging server is where we actually edit our pages and upload our PDFs. The production server is the one that actually shows the content when someone visits the main website. When you "publish" your content, you are actually just pushing the information out to the production server for the world to see.
• The staging server lives at the Chula Vista campus on our private network. The production server is in a "server farm" somewhere in La Jolla. This type of setup ensures our main website will still be operational if there is an internet or eletrical outage on campus. It also ensures the site won't crash during super busy times at the start of every semester - it "scales up" as needed!
• TMI: If you're interested, both servers are Windows-based and each has at least 4 CPU cores at 3.1 GHz and at least 16 GB of memory. There is plenty of bandwidth on each.
